WOOPI MAKES STATE CUP FINAL

Nambucca’s under 17s netball team had a strong 55-23 win over Coffs Harbour in the North Coast Regional League Final in Port Macquarie. Nambucca’s division two team also produced the goods to defeat Macleay Valley by nine points. Meanwhile Woolgoolga claimed victory over Hastings Valley in the division one decider, to book its spot in the State Cup final in Sydney. Hastings was one goal ahead after the first quarter, but Woolgoolga fought back. We’ll have a full wrap, tomorrow night.

PORT TEAMS PROGRESS IN SCHOOLS CUP

St Columba and Hastings Public are through to the next round of the netball Schools Cup after winning their local gala day in Port Macquarie. 15 primary schools from Laurieton up to Kempsey took part, hoping to book a spot in the regional final. “The North Coast finals will be played here at these fabulous brand new courts in Port Macquarie in July, so it’s exciting for Hastings Valley netball, and it’s great to have such a fabulous facility in our area,” Netball NSW Regional Coordinator Gill Cotter said. The action continues tomorrow, with the high school competition.

NEW LOOK FOR NETBALL COURTS

Some good news for the Hastings Valley netball community, with the redevelopment of the Macquarie Park venue now complete. The $920,000 state government project involved resurfacing all 11 courts and upgrading the clubhouse. Previously, four of the courts were in such a bad state, they were deemed too unsafe to play on.

SCHOOLS GO HEAD-TO-HEAD IN NETBALL CHAMPS

Schools from as far north as Tweed Heads travelled to Port Macquarie today, for the annual Lismore Diocesan Netball Championships. It’s a major event on the schools sporting calendar. “Our local HVNA Association provides really strong competition for all the local girls and they will often be around the area as well, but certainly this is definitely up there with the big competitions,” Mackillop College’s Andrea Huxley said. Port Macquarie’s Mackillop College and St Joseph’s won the junior and senior divisions respectively, while St John’s Woodlawn took out the intermediate division. (AUDIO IN PARTS)

LIONS PROVE TOO GOOD FOR MARYVILLE TAVERN IN NEWCASTLE NETBALL

In Newcastle Netball, there were mostly convincing wins at National Park today. Forsythes finished on a comfortable 41 point margin, though it was a hard fought victory for third placed Nova Thunder over Bilbie Dan. Table toppers Souths are still on track for the finals, with the Lions proving too quick for Maryville Tavern. The defenders in the shooting circle blocking crucial rebounds for the second placed team, with the Lions eventually taking the win 35 to 26.
