It’s stood for close to half a century, so it’s no surprise Stockton Bridge needs occasional running repairs.
Work to reinforce the bridge is due to get underway next month with crews to strengthen the span to make sure it can continue to handle heavy vehicles.
During the $6-million refurb, trucks that weigh more than 68 tonnes will have to detour via the Hexham Bridge.
