A crime scene has been established after a six-week old baby has reportedly been stabbed to death at a house at Wallsend, Newcastle.
The baby girl was found dead at a home in Wallsend at 9:00am this morning when emergency services were called to the house.
It is understood the girl had suffered wounds to her throat.
Family members alerted police and the infant’s 26 year-old mother was arrested at the home and is currently being questioned by Waratah detectives.
She’s expected to undergo a mental health assessment.
Forensic police are carrying out investigations inside the weatherboard property with a command post set up nearby.
