MAN FINED FOR MISUSING A PESTICIDE
The former captain of Waratah Golf Club in Argenton has been fined for attempting to kill crows with a pesticide last year.
The EPA says he tried to kill the birds in March 2014 by leaving meat, laced with the pesticide chlorpyrifos, on the grounds of the golf course.
Instead, a dog ate the bait and died while another fell ill.
“The defendant in this case not only used a pesticide contrary to the label without a permit, he did not read the label and he knowingly used the pesticide in an attempt to harm a non-target animal,” said the EPA’s Adam Gilligan.
The man has been fined $1,000 and ordered to pay legal costs of $1,500.
