An elderly man has narrowly escaped a fire that tore through his Central Coast unit.
The blaze erupted in the kitchen of the second storey apartment at Long Jetty just after 10am.
Firefighters arrived shortly after and within 20 minutes the blaze was under control.
As the 86-year-old made a run for it, he closed the door of his unit.
Firefighters say this quick-thinking action prevented the fire from spreading throughout the building.
The man was treated for smoke inhalation.
Police and firefighters will remain on scene this afternoon – the fire isn’t considered suspicious.
