A man has been charged over two pursuits through Port Stephens last night.
Police tried to stop a blue Holden Cruise on Trafalgar Street at Nelson bay, just before 11 o’clock for a random breath test.
The driver failed to stop, but police later found the car in Fingal Bay.
Officers tried to stop the car for a second time on Rocky Point Road, but the driver sped away.
Police started a pursuit, which continued through Shoal Bay, Nelson Bay, Corlette, Salamander Bay and Anna Bay.
The pursuit stopped, with the driver allegedly reaching speeds of 150 kilometres an hour in a 50km/h zone.
Police later found the car on Nelson Bay Road at Salt Ash, where road spikes were put on the road.
The vehicle was brought to a stop on the Pacific Highway, just north of Six Mile Road.
A man and a woman got out of the vehicle, and ran into nearby bushland.
Police chased them, and the pair were arrested with the help of the Dog Unit, and taken to Raymond Terrace Police Station.
Officers allege the man was carrying methylamphetamine.
The 31-year-old man was charged with six offences.
He faced Newcastle Local Court today, and was refused bail to face the same court on June 15.
