The CEO of New South Wales Sugar is denying claims that a mercury spill
at the Broadwater Mill yesterday was caused by a container being dropped.
Firefighters and Hazmat Crews were called to the mill at about 2.30pm after staff noticed a 200-millilitre leak of the hazardous material.
“The container that was in there had a leak in it, it’s been stored there for a number of years, it’s something we need to work out why it happened, but it didn’t involve any employees”
The area was isolated immediately, and no-one was injured.
A full investigation is now underway.
