TAMWORTH PAIR CHARGED OVER ALLEGED HANDBAG THEFTS

A man and woman have been charged over an alleged string of thefts in Tamworth.

Detectives formed Operation Southbreak after reports a man and woman were stealing handbags and personal items from shopping centres, carparks and motels across the city.

Police swooped in on a Tamworth home home last week, charging a 27-year-old man with multiple theft offences.

On Monday, a 26-year-old woman was pulled over on Peel Street.

Searching her car, officers uncovered several handbags, a car key and $9,500 in cash.

The woman was charged with more than a dozen theft offences.

She was refused bail and will appear at Tamworth local court next week.
