NJC ACHIEVEMENT AWARD FINISHES IN THREE-WAY TIE

The Newcastle Jockey Club has handed out its annual awards and also launched next week’s Group Three, Gold Cup.
For the first time, the coveted Annual Achievement Award finished in a three-way tie.
Trainer Kris Lees, thoroughbred syndicator Australian Bloodstock and jockey Andrew Gibbons were recognised for their achievements in the 2018/19 season.
Gibbons rode 18 winners at Broadmeadow and 137 for the season, while Lees recorded 29 wins at his home track, with a personal record of 249 nationwide.

Mitchell Hughes started as a tape editor in Newcastle in 1999. He became a reporter in 2004, working in Lismore and on the Gold Coast. Since moving back to the Newcastle office in 2006, he's taken on various roles, such as producer and chief of staff. He became the head sport reporter in 2011 and the main sport presenter in 2015.
