VETS WARN EASTER TREAT COULD BE TOXIC
Easter has arrived early at Sugarloaf Animal Hospital, with several of the Easter Bunny’s helpers hopping in to make a special delivery of eggs.
But while we’ll enjoy chocolate this Sunday, vets are warning pet owners not to extend the treat to their animals, as it can cause serious health problems.
Vet Lara Viney says, “If they’ve had larger amounts they’ll have tremors and potentially seizures, increased respiratory and heart rate and the seizing can lead to death.”
Chocolate toxicity in animals is a problem the hospital faces this time each year.
The higher the level of cocoa, the greater the risk.
“So eating white chocolate, barely any, milk is quite low but dark chocolate and cooking chocolate are the ones you are really worried about.”
