The Upper Hunter could soon have a new national park, spanning more than 10,000 hectares.
State Environment Minister Matt Kean met with Muswellbrook Council to discuss the expansion of Manobalai Nature Reserve, to have it classified as a National Park.
Council voted unanimously in favour of the plan, with the reserve home to a dozen threatened species.
The minister said he would increase the amount of national parklands across the state if council supports the plan.
