PRISONER ON THE RUN AFTER ESCAPING CUSTODY AT PORT MACQUARIE HOSPITAL

A major manhunt is underway on the Mid North Coast, after a prisoner escaped the supervision of corrective services officers at Port Macquarie Hospital.

Matthew Furner was last seen running west on the Oxley Highway near Lake Road shortly after escaping at around 8 o’clock on Sunday morning.

Police say a guard fired a ‘warning shot’ during the escape.

Furner is described as being of Caucasian appearance, 180cm tall, and with a slim build and a shaved head with a rats tail.

He was last seen wearing prison greens.

Anyone who sees the 28-year-old is asked to call Triple-0.
