NEIGHBOUR HELPS RESCUE RESIDENTS DURING BEAUMONT STREET FIRE
The heroic actions of a local man who helped rescue several people from a burning home in Newcastle has drawn praise from emergency services.
Flames took hold of two terrace houses on Beaumont Street at Islington just before 11 o’clock on Saturday evening.
It’s understood a neighbour forced his way into the home by breaking a window, helping to free those inside.
Such was the intensity of the blaze, it took fire crews around three hours to extinguish it.
One of the dwellings has been severely damaged.
An investigation into what caused the fire is now underway.
