POLICE OFFICERS HOSPITALISED AFTER CONFRONTATION AT CUDGEN

Two police officers have been injured after a scuffle with a man on the New South Wales Far North Coast this morning.
Police were called to Tweed Coast Road at Cudgen at 7am, following reports of a concern for welfare.
The officers tried to speak to the man, but he fled and was found a short time later in a potato field on Plantation Road.
It’s then alleged the 35-year-old man confronted the officers with a broom and a struggle occurred, where the man punched and attempted to eye-gouge the police.
A Taser was deployed and the man was taken into custody.
Two male senior constables were taken to Tweed Heads Hospital for treatment, for face and leg injuries.
The 35-year-old man was also taken to hospital and remains there under police guard.
