A Northern Rivers man has been killed in an overnight crash at Maclean in the state’s north.
The 47-year-old was behind the wheel of a station wagon on River Street at around 6:30 on Sunday night, when it left the road and struck a parked truck, before careering into a power pole.
The impact caused the pole to snap in half, with hundreds of local residents plunged into darkness.
Despite the best efforts of first responders, the man died at the scene.
