MIXED REACTION AT COOLANGATTA SKATE PARK OPENING

There has been a mixed reaction to the opening of a $200,000 skate park at Coolangatta.

Some teenagers are angry it’s come at the expense of the one used for the last 15 years.

  1. I have 7yr old twin boys and the park is a great relief for me to know they are in a safe place. They are not experience skaters, they are sometimes scared and intimidated by the bigger kids some adults. I have witness aggression and frustration from these old users. I was very disappointed they are removing the old existing one. My family has resided along Goodwin Park for 70 years, myself 41. Kids have always congregated in the park. Today it is so much safer than it has ever been. Taking away the old one will make no difference to any waywood teenagers at night but will make a huge inpack to the kids that felt safe there. The smaller and less experience riders need a segregated area from the rest.
Another comment I have is the location of the BBQ, I feel it is too close to the skating area. I feel a bit intimidated to use it with large groups in a very close proximity, some people might just want to use the facilities with no concerns if a out of control board hurtling towards them. It requires to me relocated N/W closer to Jarvis Lane.
Please keep the old skate board bowl.
    Kind regards
