Member for Paterson, Meryl Swanson, has refuted claims she could be ineligible to sit in parliament, amid reports a company she co-owns has a tax debt.
“They’re completely false and misleading. I’m completely up-to-date with my tax, you know, we’ve met all our taxation obligations and I’ve had legal advice to say that the section 44 implications that was made is completely unfounded.” – Meryl Swanson, Member for Paterson (ALP).
The Labor MP made the comments today while pledging $200,000 for the Richmond Vale Rail Trail project.
The federal funds would pave and light one of the 32 kilometers of track… in what advocates say is the first piece of the puzzle.
“My long term plan is to connect the beach, the lake and the vineyards by rail trail, and also connect a lot of communities.” – Billy Metcalfe, President of Richmond Vale Rail Trail.
It’s hoped the rail trail would attract more tourists to the region.
