There was a larger than expected turnout of school students in Newcastle, taking part in a national strike on climate change.
Several hundred students, along with family members, marched around the Civic precinct in a demonstration against the government’s climate and mining policies.
The student strike idea originated in Victoria, inspired by similar overseas actions.
