An afternoon trail bike ride went horribly wrong at Inverell late yesterday.
A 16-year-old boy was killed after crashing into a powerpole along a dirt track near Bothwick Street.
He suffered critical injuries and was taken to Inverell Hospital.
Despite the best efforts of police and paramedics, the teenager could not be saved.
Police are now investigating how the crash occurred.
