HUNTER NEW ENGLAND HEALTH TO CONSIDER APPLYING FOR MEDICARE LICENSE

Tamworth’s MRI machine could soon be open to the general public, if it’s granted one of 20 Medicare licenses up for grabs.

A license would mean the cost of using the machine would be bulk-billed, and more people could receive health care without having to travel outside the region.

Hunter New England Health says they’re looking to see if Tamworth is eligible, but MP Kevin Anderson thinks it’s something the city needs.

“An MRI machine’s not like a fax machine where you just go and buy one, set it up, use it, and then everybody can use it. It needs a license from Medicare and the federal government, so we’ve been pushing pretty hard for the feds to allocate a license, so that the general public can use this MRI machine.”
