RESCUE CHOPPER SEEKING NEW TAMWORTH BASE

The Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service is eyeing a new Tamworth home.

Tamworth Regional Council will vote this week on the service’s plans to build a new base and training facility at the town’s airport.

It’s designed to improve northwest and New England services, and would provide accomodation for crew members.

The move is part of a plan to reduce the time taken to assemble crews for emergency call-outs.

If approved, the service hopes to have the facility completed by the end of the year.
