BALLINA’S MARINE TOWER COPS BRUNT OF STORM

Ballina’s Marine Rescue Volunteers are concerned about the condition of the rescue tower, after it copped the brunt of friday’s wild weather.

Winds peaked at 160km/h during the storm, causing major damage to the tower’s roof, aerials and cables.

Volunteers say the damage is making it difficult to operate.

“When our aerials are lower we don’t have the range, so we got up and going on a limited scale yesterday but it’s going to be some time before we have it up and going again”

It’s believed repairs could cost more than $10,000.
