BYPASS OPEN DAY THIS SUNDAY

Pedestrians will get the chance to cross Australia’s longest bridge this Sunday, as part of celebrations marking the impending opening of the Kempsey bypass.

The road stretches 14.5 kilometres and includes a 3.2 kilometre long bridge over the Macleay River and Frogmore floodplain.

The $618-million project will open to traffic in March – more than 12 months ahead of schedule, and will remove an estimated 2,000 trucks a day from local roads.

Shuttle busses will depart from a number of locations including the Kempsey Showgrounds on Sea Street from 8:30 am.
