ORICA RESTARTS BUT COUNTS COST

Orica has finally started production of ammonia at its troubled Kooragang Island plant.
The company confirmed on Wednesday morning that production has started. The resumption comes nearly six months after a hexavalent chromium leak, that caused distress for hundreds of people living in the nearby suburb of Stockton.
But the problems at the plant have come at a huge financial cost.
Orica says the six month closure could strip up to $90-million from earnings before interest and tax in the 2012 financial year.
The company says the loss in earnings would be incurred in first half year results, and that the comapny still expected its first full year net profit, after tax, to be higher than it reported in 2011.
