Four people have been plucked from inside a sea cave, in a dramatic rescue near Caves Beach at Lake Macquarie.

A group of five males, aged between 15 and 30, entered the water at Pinny Beach at around lunchtime, swimming to a nearby sea cave.

Fading light and an incoming tide trapping the group at around 4 o’clock.

The oldest man managed to make it out of the cave, climbing to a cliff top and raising the alarm.

A multi-agency search operation was started, with volunteers from Caves Beach Surf Lifesaving Club using an inflatable rescue boat to retrieve the four males.

The group was taken to Caves Beach and treated by paramedics.
