Some much-needed help could finally be on the way for businesses in Newcastle’s CBD, with the council considering rate relief for property owners impacted by light rail construction.
If approved, a 50 per cent rebate would be available… but ONLY if owners commit in writing to passing on the savings to tenants.
Newcastle Lord Mayor Nuatali Nelmes says,
“This is targeted rate relief for those small businesses doing it tough from light rail construction…landowners have to pass it on to their tenants.”
The proposal is part of Newcastle’s draft 2018/19 budget, which will go on public display tomorrow.
