SPECIAL WIN FOR SHANE ILGEN AT CITY MILE DASH

Less than a week after watching his mentor Aaron Royle claim a world title, Mayfield triathlete Shane Ilgen has scored a memorable win of his own.
The 18 year old was one of the few serious athletes in the field for today’s first ever City Mile Dash in Newcastle, raising money for cancer research.
He eased into second early on, but after 1.6 kilometres, finished a clear winner.
“Yeah just came here for a hit out and my Nan passed away five months ago from cancer so I really wanted to come here and nail it yeah.”
Competing in her first mile event, 800 metre specialist Tia Brady was first home for the girls.
In all, more than 130 runners took part, so far they’ve raised more than $12,000.
