FLASH FLOODING FORECAST FOR MID NORTH COAST

The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a Severe Weather Warning for the Mid North Coast.

Heavy rainfall, possibly leading to flash flooding, may develop from Thursday morning.

The rain may spread further south to the Hunter and Central Coast, as the trough extends southwards on Friday.

A Flood Watch has also been issued for water catchments in the region.

Locations which could be affected include Coffs Harbour, Port Macquarie, Taree, Woolgoolga, Sawtell and Dorrigo.

The State Emergency Service advises that people should keep clear of creeks and storm drains, and never drive, ride or walk through flood water.

NSW SES Northern Zone Chief Superintendent Steve Patterson is urging residents to prepare their homes now, and monitor road conditions closely.

“It’s important that drivers slow down on the roads and drive to the conditions,” Mr
Patterson said. “If you come across a flooded road please make the safe decision. Turn
around, it’s just not worth the risk!”
