NEWCASTLE CRICKET LAUNCHES NEW T20 COMPETITION

Newcastle District Cricket is hoping to capitalise on the popularity of the T20 format, today conducting the draw for its own standalone competition.
The city council has come onboard as a major sponsor, hoping this will be the first step towards bringing the national league to town.
“Everybody knows how much I love sporting events and I would love to see Big Bash here in Newcastle. That is a path that we’ve begun discussions with Cricket NSW on.”
A handful of BBL stars could also take part.
“Yeah no names but I’ve heard clubs are talking to Sydney grade clubs and players direct and depending on their commitments with state sides and franchises we may well see some big name players playing.”
The first round of midweek twilight matches gets underway at Number One Sportsground on January 9.
