UPPER HUNTER DRIVERS THE TARGET OF NEW SAFETY CAMPAIGN

Drivers behaving dangerously at level crossings are the target of a new campaign in the upper Hunter, starting today.
It’s off the back of alarming statistics which highlight 122 collisions between cars and trains in New South Wales in the past 15 years, on top of research by the Office of the National Rail Safety Regulator, revealing a possible 10 near-hits a month.
Officers will be on the lookout for motorists ignoring signs, speeding near level crossings and illegally using mobile phones, particularly in the area of Denman.
The operation runs until December 4.
