POLICE HOLD FEARS FOR MISSING 82 YEAR OLD MULLUMBIMBY WOMAN

Police hold fears for the safety of an 82-year-old woman who went missing from a Mullumbimby aged care facility more than 24 hours ago.

Audrey Woods was last seen at her Coolamon Villa just after three o’clock yesterday afternoon.

She is described as being of medium build with shoulder length brown hair.

“160 centimetres tall, wearing a long blue and cream floral skirt and a cream cardigan”

Emergency services spent the day scouring nearby bushland and searching local streets for any trace of her.

Family and Police are concerned for Audrey’s welfare as she left the Villa without warm clothing or money.

Anyone with any information should call Crimestoppers.

  1. On and off yesterday (19 August 2011)–until about 10pm–there were helicopters circling where I have been visiting my daughter (very near Azalea Street in Mullumbimby), apparently with the hope of finding poor Audrey Woods. From where I live (in Israel) I know that the only way to find a missing person–especially at night–is with investigators ON THE GROUND. The terrain contains areas with dense vegetation, and I am sure that using a helicopter (especially at night) for any length of time was a waste of time and money.

  2. There were 35 personell on the ground searching. The Helicoptor is an extremly important tool in the search for missing persons. Not only is it eyes in the sky, it may alert the missing person that people are looking for her and come out of the shelter if thats the case. Certianly it costs money but if it was a member of your family Gary Newman you would want every resourse utilised?

  3. Gary – are you blind or what?

From 7:00am till 11:00pm SES and and VRA saturated Mullumbimby and Left Bank with at 40+ volunteers – on foot. How could you miss them? The SES wear BRIGHT orange and the VRA bright white uniforms.

In addition to the PROFESSIONAL albeit VOLUNTEER searches, there where a huge number of locals searching their properties and surrounding area.

Your comments are an insult to the number of people who took time off work to look for someone whom WE did not know. Notice I said WE? Yes, I was one of the SES volunteers that took a day off work and spent Friday and Saturday searching for Audrey.

So Gary next time you need to express an opinion, or just get your name on the web – think first before you make a fool of yourself.
