BELLINGEN COUNCIL SEEKS LEGAL ADVICE

The Bellingen Shire Council has sought legal advice over its decision to determine an application to expand a dairy farm on North Bank Road at Raleigh.

The proponent, Raleigh Dariy Holdings, wants to increase it current operation to 790 cows, just 10 short of what would normally be decided by a regional planning committee.

The proposal has angered local residents who claim it will pose a pollution threat to the Bellinger River.

The dairy company announced two weeks ago that it was abandoning plans to expand its other dairy farm at Yellow Rock.

The issue is due to be decided at the council’s July meeting.
