NEWCASTLE MINES GROUTING FUND

The NSW Government has announced the establishment of a $17-million Newcastle Mines Grouting Fund, to tackle mining voids and subsidence in the city centre.
Planning Minister Rob Stokes says the Hunter Development Corporation is taking applications to address the issue, which the government says is halting development opportunities in the Newcastle CBD.
“This will open up opportunities for greater investment in development in Newcastle’s city centre that will help grow the city, creating new homes and jobs,” said Mr. Stokes.
Parliamentary Secretary for the Hunter Scot MacDonald MLC says the creation of the fund shows the NSW Government’s commitment to the future of Newcastle.
“Newcastle will now be able to grow and develop in areas that have remained idle because of historic mining voids, which have been a major handbrake on the city’s economic growth,” said Mr MacDonald.
“This fund will help bring to reality the NSW Government’s plans to revitalise Newcastle.”
