Health authorities are urging residents to get a flu jab, following a steep increase in the number of confirmed influenza cases.
So far, the North Coast has the highest number of cases in the state, outside of Sydney.
This year’s flu vaccine covers the four most common strains and is free for high risk groups, including pregnant women and the elderly.
The North Coast Public Health unit received 174 flu notifications last month – with case numbers expected to peak in the coming weeks.
