2500 BRAVE TREKKERS SET OFF ON KOKODA CHALLENGE

No-one calls this a fun run.

A record 2,500 are tackling The Kokoda Challenge, one of Australia’s most gruelling.

Ahead of them – 96 kilometres of the Gold Coast Hinterland so steep it splits toe nails.

The record’s 10 hours – a lasting tribute to those who fought in Kokoda.

  1. I completed the Kokoda Challenge with my dad, sister nada family friend at 33 hours and 8 minutes. On the way I spoke to many competitors who completed or started last year and they all said how bad it was compared to last year. I have to say that I did not see one person without mud somewhere on them! The hills on the challenge are legendary, each are completely different from the next – from a five kilometer hike up a hill to a slippery slope where with each step brings you backwards they all have their own challenges. Our team, Les Quatre Escargots consisted of four people who all made it past the finish line. Roly our team leader had done an amazing job of training us all and preparing us for the whopping ninety-six kilometers, aged at fifty did brilliantly on making sure that not only he passed the line but also the rest of the team. Thank you!
The team consisted of all ages with Roly at 50, Sarah at 47, Phoebe at 15 and me(Molly) at 13.
Truthfully I think that anyone who decided to even start the challenge is completly insane. Insane but utterly brilliant brilliant and are legendary. 96 kilometers is a great feat to have under your belt and your feet really do feel it!

  2. I can’t open this video – I’m on a Mac & have tried on my iPhone too – my husband’s team came 13th overall so I was really looking forward to seeing this – please advise?
