WEST KEMPSEY PAIR TO FACE COURT OVER ALLEGED TAXI ROBBERY

A man and a woman will face court over the alleged robbery of a mid north coast taxi driver.

Police say that the taxi driver picked up the man and woman at a taxi rank on Belgrave Street in Kempsey on Monday afternoon.

The pair were driven to Leith Street in West Kempsey, where the man allegedly threatened the driver, demanding her mobile phone and money.

The taxi driver complied and the pair walked off.

Police inquiries led them to a unit block in Leith Street yesterday afternoon, and after a brief struggle with police, a man in his 30’s and a 21-year-old woman were arrested.

They were charged with a number of related offences including demanding money with menaces and not paying the authorised fare.
