A fire that caused the evacation of a unit block in Newcastle’s west end is not being being treated as suspicious.
Emergency services were called to a unit on Bellevue Street just before 10pm after food left unattended on a stove caught alight.
The fire caused minor damage to the kitchen but smoke caused residents to evacuate the building.
A male occupant of the unit was treated for smoke inhalation.
