Merewether has started the Newcastle cricket season with a bang, beating Waratah-Mayfield in one of the lowest scoring games in the association’s history.
Grand final winners University got their title defence off to a winning start.
Rain interrupted a handful of games, with Belmont beating Charlestown on run rate, while Hamwicks dominated Wallsend’s attack.
Matt Webber helped the visitors to a huge total, as the run rate ticked over consistently in the first 40 overs.
Cameron Roxby got some revenge when he rolled Webber three runs short of his century.
Matt’s brother Sam provided an impressive cameo, he put on a hitting display, smashing 61 off just 20 deliveries.
