A 27-year-old man has died in a crash near Newcastle, just hours into a road safety campaign for the long weekend.
Emergency services were called to the intersection of Brandy Hill Drive and Clarence Town Road at Clarence Town at about 6am this morning, after a Holden Commodore and Toyota Land Cruiser collided.
The driver of the sedan died at the scene, while the other driver was uninjured.
The man was taken to Maitland Hospital for mandatory testing.
