CHEMICAL SPILL CLOSES NORTHERN END OF M1
A large chemical spill has closed the Northern end of the M1 (F3) highway at Beresfield.
A truck has lost its load of chemicals near the John Renshaw Drive roundabout.
An exclusion zone extending back to Weakleys Drive is now in place.
Emergency services continue to block the M1 Pacific Motorway in both directions between the John Renshaw Drive roundabout and Newcastle Link Road.
Emergency services including Hazmat are currently on site attending to the spillage.
Motorists should stay away away from this location.
Diversions have been put in place:
• Southbound motorists wishing to access the M1 Pacific Motorway (F3) should use Maitland Road, Wallsend Road and Newcastle Link Road to access the M1 Pacific Motorway.
• Northbound motorists travelling on the M1 Pacific Motorway (F3) are being diverted off the Motorway via Newcastle Link Road at Cameron Park.
• Southbound motorists on Weakleys Drive are being turned around at the roundabout at Enterprise Drive.
Motorists travelling via these diversions should exercise caution and allow additional travel time due to the additional traffic volumes on these diversions as a result of this incident.
Due to the nature of this incident there is no forecast available as to when this closure will be lifted.
how long will it be closed for. need to travel about 5pm that way
Could you please advise an update on the chemical spill. Thanks and regards, Sue
