SNAPPING TURTLES HATCH AT TARONGA ZOO

The fight to save the Bellinger River Snapping Turtle from extinction has received a boost after 21 tiny turtles hatched as part of a Taronga Zoo captive breeding program.
A newly discovered disease wiped out up to 90 per cent of the local population in 2015.
The remaining turtles in the river are being monitored but it’s thought that only as few as 200 of the reptiles remain.
It’s planned to release the new hatchlings back into the Bellinger River when they mature.
