FIGHT TO RETAIN FLIGHT TRAINING SCHOOL HEADED TO PARLIAMENT
The fight for Tamworth to retain its multi-million dollar flight training school continues.
Member for New England Barnaby Joyce will head a delegation slotted to visit defence minister David Johnston during the next sitting of parliament.
“It’s a better deal to have it in Tamworth, it’s not just parochialism. We get more flying days, we’ve already got the infrastructure set up, we’ve got to make sure we’re building a military culture at Tamworth airport.”
However, Mr Joyce wouldn’t be drawn on whether the city’s facilities would need to undergo multi-million dollar capital upgrades should the flight service stay.
“I’m not going to sort of enter into what should or should not be required. I will leave that for the most competent authority, which is the Minister for Defence.”
