NSW Minerals Council says the mining industry remains a major driver in the Hunter.
The latest survey shows between 2015 and 2016, mining injected $4.8-billion into the local economy.
“Given the strong demand for Hunter region’s high quality coal and the at or near record levels of expert we’re seeing through the Port of Newcastle of that coast, the prospects the prospects of the Hunter Valley mining industry are very very strong.”
Over the same period, mining directly employed around 11,200 people – up slightly on the previous year.
