12PM NEWS UPDATE: FEBRUARY 14, 2017

Hi there, Paul Lobb with an NBN news update.

  • The New South Wales Government has backflipped on the forced amalgamations of regional councils, but the forced mergers of Sydney councils will go ahead.
  • New South Wales firefighters are trying to get the upper hand on a massive blaze which has destroyed homes and blackened tens of thousands of hectares of land. • More pictures have emerged of a large great white shark in Lake Macquarie south of Newcastle. A fisherman in a four metre tinny snapped these shots of the shark when it snagged his fishing lines in the Swansea Channel off Marks Point.
  • An emergency situation is unfolding in California, where crews are urgently working to fix a crumbling dam wall that’s forced the evacuation of nearly 200,000 people.
  • Disability services workers from the Hunter have travelled to Sydney to protest at parliament house today about the privitisation of services and a looming funding gab for the NDIS.
