DOOR STILL OPEN FOR INTERCITY RAIL CAR BUILD

The state government has left the door open for Hunter train builders, hoping to be part of the new metro fleet project.

Having already expressed a preference to import the new trains and carriages, Transport Minister Gladys Berejiklian has invited Australian and overseas suppliers to an industry think-tank later this month.

The $2.8-billion project will see 65 new trains and 520 carriages on the intercity network, which includes Newcastle and the Central Coast.
