HENDRA VIRUS QUARANTINES CASINO PROPERTY

A property in Northern New South Wales has been quarantined after a horse died from the Hendra Virus.
The horse was being treated by a vet until it died at Casino, and samples were then sent to the Department of Primary Industries for testing. The lab then confirmed the Hendra Virus.
Those who handled the horse are being monitored by NSW Health. It’s understood the horse had been in a paddock with regular flying fox activity.
It’s the first case of Hendra virus in NSW this year.

A very rare & fragile virus yet so deadly.
I hope the vet that had been treating the horse for some time prior to his knowledge of the horse having the virus was using PPE and has not contracted the virus.
I read somewhere else that all other horses on the property have tested negative, it is a very difficult virus to spread, but if the vet has not used hygienic measures he could be at risk.
Shoot him up with some VitC the poor old vet.
Where is this supposed Hendra case…. some reports it says Casino & others Kyogle….nothing from DPI???
20k ne of Kyogle I’ve heard
