Gunnedah Shire Council and the R-M-S are seeking grant funding from alternate sources to cover an unfunded a portion of the second rail overpass.
The $6.5-million is required for the Barber Street section of the project.
The overpass has been the subject of intense scrutiny from the public, with the cost amounting to more than $58-million.
