The Special Commission looking into how police and the Catholic Church handled child sex allegations in the Maitland-Newcastle Diocese, has been told senior clergy sat on evidence of abuse.
The claims relate to the crimes of now deceased paedophile, Denis McAlinden, one of two priests at the centre of the inquiry.
