ALLEGED CAR THIEF APPREHENDED IN PORT STEPHENS BUSHLAND

A man will face a Newcastle court after he allegedly abandoned a stolen vehicle in bushland near Port Stephens.

The 27-year-old was allegedly seen in a stolen Subaru Impreza in the Pindimar area just after 4pm yesterday.

Police found the vehicle abandoned in bushland and with the help of a police dog handler the man was arrested a short time later.

Police also found what they believed to be prohibited drug in his possession.

The man was charged with a range of offences including taking a conveyance, possessing a prohibited drug, resisting arrest, and hindering police.

It’s believed the same man may be responsible for another abandoned stolen vehicle after a crash on Mungo Bush Road in Hawks Nest.
