SAMURAI SWORD AND SHORTENED SHOTGUN RECOVERED DURING VEHICLE STOP

A firearm and a sword have allegedly been located during a vehicle stop north of Newcastle earlier this week.

Around 8:30am on Friday, police stopped a car in Salt Bush Avenue, Salt Bush, after reports it had been driving suspiciously.

Officers spoke to a man standing next to the grey Holden Commodore, and a subsequent search located a shortened double-barrelled shotgun and a samurai sword.

A 40-year-old man was charged with possessing a shortened firearm without authority, and custody of a knife in a public place.

He was granted conditional bail to appear in court in February.
